چکیده

The Short GAmma Ray Front Air Cherenkov Experiment (SGARFACE) is operated at the Whipple Observatory utilizing the Whipple 10 m γ-ray telescope. SGARFACE is sensitive to γ-ray bursts of more than 100 MeV with durations from 100 ns to 35 μs and provides a fluence sensitivity as low as 0.8 γ rays per m above 200 MeV (0.05 γ rays per m above 2 GeV) and allows to record the burst time structure.

Search for Short Bursts of Gamma Rays Above 100 MeV from the Crab using VERITAS and SGARFACE

The phenomenon of giant radio pulses (GRP) from the Crab Pulsar can be studied at gamma-ray energies using atmospheric-Cherenkov telescopes such as VERITAS and the SGARFACE experiment attached to the Whipple 10 m telescope. Although these instruments are generally used for very-high-energy gamma-ray astronomy above 100 GeV, they also provide substantial sensitivity to short bursts of photons ab...

Toward Ultra Short Gamma Ray Burst Ground Based De- tection, SGARFACE status

We present the status and motivation of the Short GAmma Ray Front Air Cherenkov Experiment (SGARFACE) which will be operated parallel to standard Very High Energy γ-ray observations using the Whipple 10m telescope. SGARFACE is sensitive to 100MeV-10GeV γ-ray bursts with durations ranging from 100ns to 100μs providing a fluence sensitivity as low as few 10−9erg · cm−2. Preliminary data taking st...

Detection Techniques of Microsecond Gamma-Ray Bursts using Ground-Based Telescopes

Gamma-ray observations above 200 MeV are conventionally made by satellite-based detectors. The EGRET detector on the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory (CGRO) has provided good sensitivity for the detection of bursts lasting for more than 200 ms. Theoretical predictions of high-energy γ-ray bursts produced by quantum-mechanical decay of primordial black holes (Hawking 1971) suggest the emission of b...

Determination of virtual point for HPGe detector at various gamma rays energies by simulation and experimental methods

High Purity Germanium detectors (HPGe) are subdivisions of semiconductor detectors which are widely used in nuclear technology from space industry to nuclear medicine, due to their high resolution, low dead time, unlimited size and compatibility with a variety of environments. The( absolute and intrinsic) efficiency of the HPGe detector, which depends on the geometry of the source-detector syst...

The SPI anticoincidence shield consists of 91 BGO crystals and is operated as a nearly omnidirectional gamma-ray burst detector above 75 keV. Since the start of the mission 269 gamma-ray burst candidates have been detected. 110 bursts have been confirmed with the instruments included in the 3rd Interplanetary Network. Here we present a preliminary statistical analysis of the SPI-ACS sample of g...
